Damn fine main event. Sure, there were a few moments that bugged here and there, but mostly it reminded me of how, like at Extreme Rules, one big 45-minute match featuring all the best guys on the brand can (barely) save a PPV.
These guys took a freakin beating here, save for Nakamura who got taken out before he even got through a fraction of his entrance, and then spent the majority of the match in the back. Thankfully, when he did come back it wasn't just to steal a win. He cleaned house for a while and then entered into an awesome and epic final face off-turned-war with AJ Styles.
With the two of them so evenly matched though, and fighting long enough for someone else to rise up and retaliate, it became a little obvious that neither was winning. So who would thwart these two icons while they climbed the ladder slowly (which was weird for Shinsuke since he'd barely been in the match)? Why, Baron Corbin, naturally. The guy who, arguably, has less of a personality than the briefcase itself.
So maybe we didn't get the best winner, overall, but we'll see. They could do something fun with Corbin eventually. You know, when a babyface wrestles the title away from Jinder. That doesn't mean he'll all of a sudden get great on the mic, or start emoting more than the snarling wolves on his shirts, but I'm optimistic. Still, not ideal. I'm all for surprises, but not when it sucks the air out of an arena and creates sneers of indifference.
God though, Ziggler taking that sunset flip powerbomb off the ladder. Owens taking that 3/4 suplex on the ring apron AND multiple hard landings on ladders. Happy Father's Day, I guess. It was brutal.
Winner: Baron Corbin
